In this hands-on test on cosci.de, I compared the battery life of two popular action cameras: the DJI Action 5 Pro and the Insta360 Ace Pro 2. Both cameras were tested under identical conditions — in a controlled indoor environment at a constant room temperature of 22–23 °C, with no external power and set to 4K at 30 FPS in 4:3 aspect ratio (3840 × 2880 px).
Test Setup at a Glance
- Resolution: 4K (3840×2880 px)
- Frame rate: 30 FPS
- Mode: Video, 4:3 aspect ratio
- Power: Internal battery only (no power bank)
- Room temperature: Constant 22–23 °C
- Lighting: Neutral, consistent indoor lighting
DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro – Surprisingly Long Battery Life
The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro delivered an impressive runtime of around 2 hours and 10 minutes before it stopped recording due to battery depletion. No overheating issues were observed during the test at this resolution. With a power bank or charger connected, recording time could be extended significantly.
📸 Conclusion DJI Action 5 Pro:
- Battery life: ~130 minutes
- Thermal stability: No overheating
- Verdict: Excellent choice for extended indoor recordings
Insta360 Ace Pro 2 – High Performance, Shorter Runtime
The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 lasted about 87 minutes at 4K 30FPS in the same 4:3 configuration before the battery ran out. A second test in 8K (16:9, 7680 × 4320 px) showed a much shorter runtime: the camera shut down after about 21 minutes due to overheating.
📸 Conclusion Insta360 Ace Pro 2:
- Battery life at 4K: ~87 minutes
- 8K mode: Only ~21 minutes before overheating
- Note: 8K recording is only available in 16:9 (not 4:3)
